Logical volume Manager (LVM) Cookbook

Creating a logical volume

lvcreate -L64G -nVolumeName VolumeGroup

Size is expressed in megabytes by default, the example creates 64 gigabyte volume with the name VolumeName in the volume group VolumeGroup.

Creating a snapshot

Snapshots are copies of a logical volume. Changes in either are recorded in the snapshot space. Once enough changes accumulate and fill up the space for the snapshot, it will be automatically disabled.

lvcreate -L8G -nSnapshotName -s /dev/mapper/SourceVolumeGroup-SourceVolumeName -n SnapshotName
